Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
